Indira Gandhi Govt Dental College Jammu secures recognition for MDS Courses | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 1: The relentless efforts of the U.T. Government of Jammu and Kashmir, coupled with unwavering support from the State Administration, have resulted in the prestigious recognition of the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu as a Recognized MDS Institution. The notable achievement was officially declared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (Dental Education Section), New Delhi, through Notification No: V.12017/22/2023-DE on 24 January 2024. The journey towards this recognition began with collaborative efforts, requiring initial engagement with the Health and Medical Education Department for permission and commencement of the MDS courses. The U.T Administration, responding to the genuine demand from the student community, championed the cause, presenting it to the Ministry of Health as a requisition for the Dental Fraternity, particularly the Undergraduate students at the college. Expressing his views on the achievement, the Dean & Head of the institution emphasized that the launch of the MDS courses makes education economically accessible for the students pursuing BDS at the institution. The cost of completing the MDS course within the government institution is estimated at around ?25,000, a significantly economical option compared to pursuing the same course outside the state, where costs can run into lakhs. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, acknowledging the need-based demand and the support extended by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, granted permission for MDS courses in seven specialties, each with two seats. The Dental Council of India played a crucial role in inspecting the institution and ensuring compliance with all regulations. The Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, established in 2004, has been striving for this recognition for sixteen years, with the MDS course finally commencing in 2020. Presently offering nine specialties, seven have been permitted for MDS courses, with the remaining two underway for approval. The notification from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as published in the Gazette of India, marks a significant milestone for the institution and is expected to meet the educational needs of the Dental Fraternity in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, serving the public with a noble cause. The Dean & Head of the institution expressed sincere gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, led by Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary to Government of UT J&K, and Administrative Secretary to Health and Medical Education Department for their administrative support in this commendable achievement. |
