NYK Udhampur drives HIV awareness programme
2/2/2024 10:30:27 PM
Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Feb 2: Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Udhampur, in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, took a significant step towards spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS through a Sensitization Programme under the "Out of School Youth Programme" of the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department. The event, held at Village Thaplal in Block Ramnagar on February 2, 2024, witnessed the active participation of 100 youth from the region.
The programme, organized under the guidance of District Youth Officer, Khushal Gupta, featured resource persons Dr. Vishal Sharma, Health Educator, and Dr. Vijay Kumar, Physician. DDC Councillor Mool Raj graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Dr. Vishal Sharma delivered an informative lecture on HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), emphasizing that this virus weakens the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections and diseases. He highlighted that HIV is primarily transmitted through certain bodily fluids during unprotected sex or through the sharing of injection drug equipment.
Dr. Vijay Kumar shed light on various precautionary measures to prevent the transmission of HIV. He motivated the rural youth to overcome the social stigma associated with AIDS, stressing that infected individuals often hesitate to seek treatment, thereby contributing to the rapid spread of the virus. Dr. Kumar also addressed the critical issue of drug addiction, advising the youth to engage in physical activities as a positive alternative.
Mool Raj, DDC Councillor, commended the efforts of Nehru Yuva Kendra Udhampur and stressed the importance of organizing such awareness programmes in every village. He emphasized that the youth, being the future of the nation, play a crucial role in guiding rural communities on contemporary issues.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by National Youth Volunteer Anil Kumar Atri. The collaborative effort between NYK Udhampur and J&K AIDS Control Society stands as a testament to their commitment to educating and empowering youth in the region on matters of public health.
