Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 2: The second four-day awareness cum training program on "Hygienic Milk Production and Value Addition of Milk" commenced at the Division of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, R.S.Pura, SKUAST-Jammu. The program, organized under the HADP Project entitled "Innovative Extension Approaches for Revitalizing Agricultural Extension," is set to empower farmers in Jammu district. Under the esteemed guidance of Prof. (Dr.) B. N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, and Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Katoch, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, R.S Pura, the inaugural session featured Prof. Katoch as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the significance of hygienic milk production and value addition in ensuring the safety and quality of dairy products. Prof. Katoch highlighted the importance of clean milk production for the benefit of both producers and consumers, stressing the maintenance of hygienic conditions throughout the entire process. He underlined that the quality of dairy products, from production to consumption, plays a pivotal role in determining consumer satisfaction. Dr. Sunil Kumar, Prof. & Head, Div. of Livestock Products Technology, shed light on the value addition of milk, encompassing the processing of milk into various dairy products. These include flavored milk, srikhand, cheese, butter, yogurt, ice cream, and more. Dr. Kumar emphasized that value addition not only enhances the shelf life of milk but also provides additional income to dairy farmers. Dr. Pranav Kumar, Senior Assistant Professor, Div. of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension Education, welcomed the Chief Guest, resource persons, and women dairy farmers from border areas. He provided an overview of the program, emphasizing that adhering to hygienic milk production practices and value addition techniques can lead to the production of high-quality, safe dairy products with an extended shelf life. Expressing gratitude to the team of training coordinators, postgraduate students, and staff involved in organizing the program, Dr. Kumar highlighted the significance of the initiative. The training aims to contribute to the overall development and capacity building of women engaged in dairy farming in the border areas of Suchetgarh in R.S. Pura, Jammu. This proactive step aligns with SKUAST-Jammu's commitment to promoting remunerative and sustainable practices in dairy farming. |
