Jammu, Feb 2: In a collaborative effort to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention and celebrate the traditional culture of Jammu and Kashmir, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) joined forces with the AIDS Control Society, Health and Medical Education of Jammu and Kashmir Government. The organizations initiated a one-week special AIDS awareness campaign through folk media, featuring musical plays and Nukkad Natak (street plays). The campaign kicked off with two performances in its 401st Friday series, showcasing the musical play “Muskan” at Khara, Purmandal, Bari Brahmana, District Jammu. Chief Guest Vijay Kumar Sharma, Principal of Govt. Hr. Sec School, Purmandal, and Jyoti Jamwal, Headmaster of Govt. Middle School, Khara, Zone Purmandal, inaugurated the event. Special guests Sandeep Sharma, Najnder Kumar, Gulafshan Teacher, and Pawan Singh Teacher were also present. Addressing the audience, Chief Guest Vijay Kumar Sharma emphasized the importance of understanding HIV and AIDS, highlighting that HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system. He clarified that there is currently no cure for HIV, and once contracted, individuals have it for life. He dispelled misconceptions about casual transmission and outlined that the virus spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids. The Chief Guest emphasized that awareness is crucial in preventing the spread of HIV. In addition to awareness programs, the event featured vibrant cultural programs, including skits, dances, and songs, all centered around the theme of AIDS prevention. The musical Nukkad Natak/play “Vishanu Hai” and specially designed songs were performed. |
