Early Times Report SAMBA, Feb 7: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Samba, under the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), recently hosted an interaction meeting to foster institutional innovations in agricultural practices. The event, conducted under the patronage of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, featured insightful discussions led by Dr. Puranjan Das, former Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) at ICAR. Dr. Das emphasized the importance of economic viability in agricultural initiatives undertaken by KVK at the farmer's field. He urged KVK to serve as a beacon of guidance for the farming community, emphasizing the need to align with the Central Government's directives on forming Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), promoting organic farming, and adopting cluster-based approaches to enhance the future readiness of Indian agriculture. Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Zone 1, highlighted the necessity of disseminating various welfare schemes of the Government of India directly to farmers' doorsteps to ensure maximum outreach. He underscored the significance of developing entrepreneurial skills among farmers to unlock the full potential of the agriculture sector. Dr. Sheoran stressed the importance of offering courses on agribusiness management to empower farmers economically. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension at SKUAST-Jammu, commended KVK Samba for its efforts in improving the livelihood security of farmers across the district, especially in remote areas. The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head of KVK Samba, who provided an overview of KVK's activities for the farming community. Prakash Chand, Member of the Kissan Advisory Board, and other progressive farmers shared their insights during the program. Expert lectures were delivered by Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha and Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma during the interaction between farmers and scientists.
