Early Times Report
RAMNAGAR, Feb 14: The Student Voter Electoral Education and Participation (SVEEP) Cell of GDC Ramnagar commenced a Seven-Day Voter's Awareness Workshop in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, under the esteemed patronage of Principal Dr. Bhavnaish Chand Anthal and the supervision of Dr. Sunil Kumar and Prof. Ritika Mahajan. The inaugural day of the workshop, held on the 14th of February 2024, featured a compelling lecture delivered by Dr. Piyush Kant Sharma, Head of Department of Political Science, shedding light on the significance of voting and its pivotal role in fostering a healthy and vibrant democracy.
Principal Dr. Anthal, in his address, emphasized the imperative role of student participation in the electoral process and urged the youth to spearhead awareness initiatives aimed at expanding the electorate's understanding of their democratic rights. He lauded the initiatives undertaken by the SVEEP Cell and NSS unit in organizing this timely workshop. Dr. Piyush Kant Sharma, the resource person for the event, delved into the rich historical roots of democracy in India, drawing parallels with ancient democratic systems such as the Janapada system. Through an engaging discourse, he underscored the evolution of the right to vote, tracing its origins to significant historical milestones like the Magna Carta of 1215 AD. Dr. Sharma engaged with students, addressing their queries regarding voting eligibility, voter responsibilities, and the historical context of voting rights movements. The program concluded with Prof. Ritika Mahajan delivering concluding remarks, and Dr. Sunil Kumar extending a vote of thanks. Approximately eighty students actively participated in the event, signaling a promising start to the workshop aimed at fostering a culture of informed and active citizenship among the youth of GDC Ramnagar.
