All India Inter University Wushu Championship concludes at JU

JAMMU, Feb 17: The University of Jammu and Chandigarh University Mohali showed its supremacy by lifting Men & Women Championship Trophies in Sanda (Men) and Sanda (Women) respectively in the All India Inter-University Wushu (Men & Women) Championship 2023-24 which was concluded at the University Gymnasium Hall. The Championship was organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu. The Men Championship was bagged by the University of Jammu with 31 points. The Runner-up and Second Runner-up positions in Men section were bagged by Chandigarh University, Mohali with 18 points and Lovely Professional University with 11 points. The Championship in Women section won by Chandigarh University, Mohali with 18 points. Similarly, the 2nd and 3rd places were occupied by CCS University, Meerut with 10 points and Raja Mahinder Singh Partap University with 06 points respectively.
In Taolu Event, the Championship in was won by Chandigarh University, Mohali with 41 points where as the 2nd and 3rd places were occupied by the University of Jammu with 35 points and Lovely Professional University with 30 points respectively.
Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest on the Valedictory-cum-Prize Distribution Function of the Championship. Prof. Anju Bhasin along with the other dignitaries on the dais awarded individual medals and trophies to the players amidst a large gathering of players and officials of the participating Universities, employees & students of the University as well as the people from the civil society.
While addressing the gathering Prof. Anju Bhasin congratulated the organizers for organizing such type of Sports events, which will provide an opportunity to the students of the various Universities across the Nation to come closer to each other besides showing their Sports talent. She also appreciated the mass participation of the players and officials accompanying their teams of the various Universities.
Sh. Vijay Saraf (President Wushu Association of J&K) and Sh. Kuldeep Handoo (Dhronacharya Awardee and Chief Coach Wushu India) was the Guest of Honour for today's occasion.
Sh. Vijay Saraf also addressed the gathering with his remarkable words and congratulated the organizers for organizing this national-level event. He further added that it is the first time in the history of the All India Inter University Championship in Wushu that we have witnessed this huge number of participants.
Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented the formal report of the said Championship in which he mentioned that the Association of Indian Universities has entrusted the responsibility to the University of Jammu, for hosting the All India Inter University Wushu (Men & Women) Championship 2023-24 w.e.f. 13th to 17th February, 2024 in which the players from 131 Universities across the Nation in the men & women section participated. Around 1500 players from different Universities of India participated in this mega Event. The proceedings of the function were conducted by Miss Komal and Miss Lakshika Jamwal whereas a formal vote of thanks was presented by Sh. Vimal Kishore, Assistant Professor, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education
Prominent among others present there were, Dr. Komal Nagar, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Sh. Vimal Kishore, Sh. Padam Dev Singh, Sh. Jai Bharat, Sh. Vikas Karlopia, Sh. Ravish Vaid, Sh. Raj Kumar Bakshi, Sh. Gagan Kumar, S. Harinderpal Singh, Dr. Mahak, Sdr. Inderjeet Singh, Ms. Manu Singh Pawar, Mr. Rishiv Sharma, Ms. Richa Sharma and officials of the participating teams.
