Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Feb 22: In a celebration of linguistic diversity and cultural heritage, the Department of Dogri, in collaboration with the Department of Urdu, marked February 21st as International Mother Language Day, also known as Matribhasha Diwas. Under the esteemed patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, the event aimed to foster a deeper appreciation for mother tongues and multilingualism in education. Themed "Multilingual Education: A Pillar of Learning and Intergenerational Learning," the event underscored the pivotal role of multilingualism in preserving and promoting regional languages and cultures, aligning with initiatives such as the National Education Policy (NEP) and the three-language policy. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta emphasized the collective responsibility of preserving and promoting mother tongues, advocating for an inclusive and effective learning environment through multilingual education. Dr. Anju Rani, Head of the Department of Dogri, highlighted the significance of Dogri language as not only a mode of communication but also a custodian of Dogra culture and heritage. Dr. Rafia Akhter, a faculty member in the Urdu department, emphasized the unity-promoting role of Urdu language and its contribution to national integration and harmony in India. The event saw active participation from around 50 students, with 10 students expressing their views on the relevance of Dogri and Urdu languages. Prof. Anoksha Sharma, Head of the Department of Sociology, facilitated the proceedings, conveying the message of "My Language, My Pride." The event was graced by the presence of esteemed faculty members including Prof. Rajni Kumari, Prof. Shivi Mehra, Dr. Sumit Rana, Dr. Pinky Rakwal, Dr. Kuljeet Singh, Dr. Nishi Slathia, and Ms. Pratibha Heer, further enriching the discourse on linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. Through such initiatives, GDC Udhampur continues to uphold the significance of mother languages and multilingualism, fostering a rich tapestry of cultural expression and inclusive learning environments within its academic community. |
