BIS conducted seminar, Manak Manthan on Hand Tools Standards | | | Agencies JALANDHAR, Feb 29: Today, BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized 'Seminar and Manak Manthan on Hand Tools Standards'. Discussion was held on Indian Standards on Combination Side Cutting Plier (IS 3650) at The Maya Hotel Jalandhar (Punjab). The objective of the discussion was to take inputs from the manufacturers of related industry and discuss the provisions of standard keeping in mind the technical as well as user perspective. The program was organised by team of officers from Bureau of Indian Standards from New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir branch office. Tilak Raj, Director and Head BIS JKBO welcomed the participants and gave overview of the program. He also briefed the participants about the initiatives taken by BIS to encourage stakeholder involvement at grassroot level in all activities which will not only help in technical upgradation of national standards but will also broaden their reach to end the users. Rajeev Ranjan Singh, Scientist F & Head of Production and General Engineering Department, detailed the Programme Objectives and shared his views on the Hand Tools industry in various parts on country and emphasized the importance of Make in India initiatives. Later, PK Verma & Amit Kumar from CIHT Jalandhar and Shri Pankaj from IAHT Ludhiana detailed about testing facilities and other initiatives taken by their respective institutes for Hand Tools Industries. Further, BIS officials detailed the standardisation process and procedure of giving suggestions and becoming member of the various technical committees of BIS. Shri Niraj Mishra, Asst Director BIS, JKBO held detailed deliberations on all clauses of the standard (IS 3650) with industries. A number of technical and editorial comments were received which will be forwarded to the related technical committee for further deliberations. In the last Various features of BIS website such as Know Your Standards, BIS website and BIS Care App were also explained. The sessions were made interactive through open house discussions by various industries in Jalandhar. The meeting was attended by participants from more than 40 different industries.
