Police busts illegal timber operation, seizes 150 sleepers
3/7/2024 10:28:25 PM
Early Times Report
DODA, Mar 7: In a significant crackdown on illegal timber activities, Doda Police have uncovered a large-scale operation in the Tanta forest area of Gandoh. Acting on reliable information, a police party from the Gandoh Police Station conducted patrols in the Bathri, Tanta locality, where they discovered a disturbing scene of environmental destruction.
Reports revealed that Shah Mohd, son of Ghulam Mohd and a resident of Draman Tanta tehsil Kahara, had been surreptitiously felling green Deodar/Far trees within the Tanta forest. He had brazenly stockpiled a substantial quantity of sleepers, estimated at 150 in number, near his residence with intentions to sell them on the market.
Upon receiving the tip-off, the vigilant police swiftly moved to the location, conducting a thorough search that led to the discovery of the illicitly obtained timber. Subsequently, a case under FIR No.09/2024 has been registered at the Gandoh Police Station, initiating a full-fledged investigation into the matter.
This recent operation marks a continuation of Doda Police's relentless efforts to combat various forms of smuggling plaguing the region. Alongside the crackdown on timber smuggling, the police have also intensified their operations against drug and bovine smugglers. In a bid to foster a safer and crime-free environment, Doda Police have called upon the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities observed in their neighborhoods.
The successful interception of this illegal timber operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement authorities to preserve the natural resources and uphold the rule of law in the region. It sends a clear message to perpetrators that unlawful activities will not be tolerated, and those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
