NEW DELHI, Mar 7: In a remarkable feat, Northern Railway has set a new record in scrap sales, emerging as the top performer among all Zonal Railways and Production Units of Indian Railway. Under the dynamic leadership of Shri Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager, Northern Railway, the organization achieved a significant milestone by disposing of scrap worth Rs. 514.06 Crores in the fiscal year 2023-24, surpassing the annual sale target of Rs. 500 Crores.
Northern Railway has consistently demonstrated its commitment to efficient scrap management, becoming the first Zonal Railway to achieve successive milestones in scrap sales, including Rs. 100 Crores, 200 Crores, 300 Crores, and 400 Crores in the current financial year.
Scrap disposal holds paramount importance not only in generating revenue but also in maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Scrap materials such as rail pieces, sleepers, and tie bars, if left unattended, pose potential safety hazards. Recognizing this, Northern Railway has taken proactive measures to dispose of abandoned structures like staff quarters, cabins, sheds, and water tanks in a mission mode. This strategic approach not only generates revenue but also ensures the efficient utilization of valuable space, preventing the possible misuse of old structures by miscreants.
The disposal of accumulated scrap, particularly PSC sleepers, has been a priority for Northern Railway, aiming to free up valuable areas for railway activities while maximizing revenue generation.
With a relentless commitment to achieving zero scrap status, Northern Railway is on a mission to cleanse the system from scrap materials. The organization's dedication and strategic initiatives are poised to set an all-time high record in scrap sales for the current financial year, reaffirming its position as a leader in efficient scrap management within the Indian Railways ecosystem.
