Kathua, Mar 8: In a significant development, the Court of Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kathua, has convicted Mohd. Abass for kidnapping and raping a minor girl. The case, pending since 2017 (FIR No. 88/2016), has finally reached a conclusion. The accused, Mohd. Abass, was charged with kidnapping and raping a minor girl while taking advantage of her age. The prosecution alleged that Abass used a vehicle (HP57-3433) during the crime. Another accused, Shehnaz Akthar, was found to be a minor (13 years old) and her case was separated. The case remained pending for seven years before the present Principal Sessions Judge took a proactive approach to expedite the trial. After hearing both sides, the court convicted Abass under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), and 344 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). |
