Tawi Trekkers elects new leadership, emphasizing youth, gender inclusivity | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 9: In a significant move aimed at fostering youth leadership and promoting gender inclusivity, Tawi Trekkers J&K, the renowned trekking club of J&K, conducted its election meeting at the Press Club of Jammu. The meeting resulted in the unanimous election of a new executive body, with Shawetica Khajuria, an international sport climbing judge, ascending to the position of President, and Sonam Sidharth, a seasoned mountaineer, assuming the role of General Secretary. The election meeting, which underscored the club's policy of transitioning management responsibilities to a younger cohort and involving more female members in its affairs, saw the appointment of Arti Sharma, a senior member and Principal of Apple Kids International Pre-School, as the Senior Vice President, and Mridhu Padha, Vice Principal of St. Xavier Convent Sr. Secondary School, Barnai, retained as Vice President. Shilpa Charak, an international sport climber and mountaineer, was appointed as Joint Secretary, while Shashi Kant Sharma took over as the Treasurer of the club. Additionally, eleven executive members were unanimously elected to manage various club activities, including esteemed individuals like Seema Kharyal, a celebrated athlete of Jammu, and Sourav Deep Singh, a proficient mountaineer from Surinsar. The elections were conducted under the supervision of Ram Khajuria, a founding member and outgoing President of the club, with an observer from the Mountaineering Association of J&K, Rakesh Goswami, President of the District Mountaineering Association, Jammu, ensuring transparency and fairness. In a gesture of appreciation and respect, a resolution was proposed and unanimously passed by the newly elected body, nominating Ram Khajuria as an Advisor of the club. Khajuria, a stalwart in adventure sports, has dedicated decades of service to the club and various mountaineering associations, leaving an indelible mark on the adventure sports landscape in the region.
