Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 22: In a proactive effort to mark World Water Day 2024, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Units of Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, joined hands with the Department of Environmental Studies (EVS) and the Eco-Club, under the auspices of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), to organize a field visit to the Sewage Treatment Plant at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. Under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Rajinder Singh, the Principal of the college, the event was initiated with the principal emphasizing the critical significance of clean water in sustaining life and the alarming rate at which human activities degrade water resources. Dr. Singh urged the participating students to contemplate the pressing issue of water resource depletion and pollution, encouraging them to engage actively in community activities aimed at water conservation. The field visit provided approximately 40 students with hands-on experience and practical demonstrations regarding the analysis of various parameters of water quality. Moreover, the students were acquainted with the intricate procedures involved in sewage treatment, including primary and secondary treatments, chlorination, and sludge collection, during their visit to the Sewage Treatment Plant. Vinod, the Incharge of the Sewage Treatment Plant in Jammu, supervised the visit and addressed the inquiries raised by the curious students, providing valuable insights into the technical aspects of wastewater management. The success of the visit owes much to the meticulous coordination and management led by Prof. Deepshikha Sharma, NSS Program Officer, Prof. Esha Abrol, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies, Dr. Deepak Pathania, NSS Program Officer and Convener of the Eco-Club, and Dr. Neeru Devi Anand, Head of the Department of Dogri. This initiative not only provided a platform for students to enhance their understanding of water conservation and wastewater management but also underscored the college's commitment to fostering environmental consciousness and responsible citizenship among its student community. |
