Jammu, Mar 22: Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT is making all out efforts to reach out to different sections of the society who need help and compassion under the leadership of Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor (President, IRCS) J&K and supervision of Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS, J&K-UT. Today, has conducted three activities: 1. Indian Red Cross Society provides free spectacle to needy children:- In a compassionate outreach to enhance the well-being of underprivileged children, the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT is providing free spectacles to needy children. This initiative, led by the General Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, aims to address vision impairments among children visiting the Red Cross dispensaries for eye check-ups. Recognizing the critical role of good vision in the educational and overall development of children, the IRCS has committed to ensuring that no child’s potential is hindered by poor eyesight. Sh. Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary stated “Vision problems can severely impact a child’s life, limiting their educational opportunities and affecting their confidence. By providing free spectacles, we aim to bring a positive change in the lives of these children, giving them the gift of clear vision and the hope for a brighter future.” 2. Eight Days First-Aid Training Programme held at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu:- Indian Red Cross Society, J&K UT organized an eight days First-Aid training programme for the Commercial Vehicle drivers and for the youth of the society which concluded today i.e. on 22nd March, 2024. During the 8 days training, different topics were covered like various techniques of Disaster Management during Earthquakes, Fires, Floods, First-Aid Kit, wounds, bandages, types of fractures, bleeding emergencies, burns etc. Emergency technique of handling bleeding patient, Fracture/accident victims was also emphasized. Highlights of the programme were how to resuscitate a patient of fainting and Cardiac Arrest. Emphasis was laid on the Management of injuries, fracture, burns, control of bleeding, practical demonstrations of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Choking. The practical and theoretical lectures were laid by Dr. Kavita Nijhon Verma & Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Medical Officers assisted by Sh. Ravi Kant Magotra, Sup. Pharmacist, Smt. Naziya Banoo, FMPHW and Sh. Joginder Kumar, Pharmacist, IRCS, Jammu. Along with that a special lecture on Drug De-addiction was also organized and free eye check-up of the participants was also done. During the last day of session, Sh. Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS J&K UT interacted with all the participants and issued Provisional certificates to them. The training went quite fruitful and ended on a good note. 3. Students of Govt. Women College, Parade Jammu visited Red Cross:- In a demonstration of community engagement and learning beyond the classroom, students from Govt. Women College, Parade, Jammu visited Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT to get the understanding of the humanitarian efforts and core activities that underpin the Red Cross’s mission worldwide. During their visit, the students were given a comprehensive overview of the Red Cross’s pivotal roles in disaster response, health and safety services, support for vulnerable communities, promotion of international humanitarian law, and community service initiatives. Through interactive session, the students gained insights into the organization’s commitment to alleviate human suffering in times of emergency and distress. The awareness was given by Ms. Vironica Marwah, Field Officer, IRCS-J&K. The students also learned about how they can get involved with the Red Cross, whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading awareness about the organization’s critical work. This visit has sparked a keen interest among many students to take active roles in humanitarian activities, marking the beginning of what the school hopes will be a lasting relationship with the Red Cross. |
