| BJP for better deal to VDC members | | |
Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 28: A general council meeting of Village Defence Committee (VDCs) was organized in which Kr. Rajeev Charak BJP leader Banihal Assembly constituency was the Chief Guest on the occasion and presided over by Sham Singh Katoch, Distt. President BJP Ramban Narinder Singh, General Secretary (Org.) for Distt. Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban was the guest of honour on this occasion. The main agenda of the meeting was the mitigation of the burning problems of the VDC members. While speaking on the occasion, Charak said that the state government is harassing the VDC members frequently. The group of eight members of VDCs has been now increased upto twenty members and their pay has been decreased from Rs. 1125/- upto Rs. 420 while there were three SPOs in the group of eight VDC members and now in the group of sixteenth to twenty, only two SPOs have been appointed. Besides this they have been not paid since eight months. In his speech, Charak demanded to pay the members of VDC of year 1997 to year 2002 on the pattern of the members of year 1995-96. He said that police and army have been kept them continuously alongwith them and so they are totally unable to do any cultivation or any labouring. So government must fix suitable monthly payment to these poor, miserable and deserved members as equal to the SPO members. In his warming note Charak warned the state government that, if it will not increase their honour and tried to decrease their honour the VDC member of the districts Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri etc. will create such misshaping and circumstances for which government of J&K will full responsible. In concluding hours all VDC members unanimously framed their own body under name and style, "VDC Federation" Banihal Distt. Ramban and Retd. Captian Tara Singh has been nominated as the convenor of the Federation. Other prominent who attended the meeting were including Dr. Tirth Singh, Raja, Rijaz Ahmed Malik, Rashpal Singh, Veer Singh, Bhim Singh, Imran Ahmed, Narad Singh Bali, Avtar Singh, Odham Singh (Sarpanch), Raj Singh, Bishan Singh, Sub. Gh. Mohd. Malik, Gain Singh, Pritam Singh and others.
