Udhampur, Mar 26: The three-day training programme on “Juvenile Justice” culminated today at the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), with 18 officers ranging from the rank of Sub-Inspector to Inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police actively participating in the sessions. The primary objective of the course was to sensitize police officers about various legal provisions aimed at safeguarding the rights of children and ensuring their proper care, especially during periods of restricted liberty. Participants were acquainted with existing legal frameworks concerning child rights in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in comparison to national standards, and were introduced to improved methods of handling juvenile cases. A valediction function was organized at the Academy, with Sh. Rajinder Kumar Gupta, IPS, SSP, Deputy Director (Indoor, Trgs), gracing the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, Shri Gupta emphasized the importance of understanding the conceptual background of child rights and provisions outlined in the Juvenile Justice Act. He highlighted the significance of the training in enabling officers to protect the rights of juveniles while dealing with cases involving them. Eminent speakers including Dr. Pallavi Anand, Assistant Registrar at the University of Jammu, Ms. Yasman, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee Udhampur, Adv. Supriya Chouhan from the High Court Jammu, and Smt. Shalini Sharma, Member of the Juvenile Justice Board Jammu, along with faculty members of SKPA, delivered lectures and shared valuable insights with the participants. The coordination of the course was managed by Shri Sukhvir Singh, Dy.SP, AD(Admn) at SKPA, with assistance from ASI Ashok Kumar of SKPA Udhampur. The successful culmination of the training programme signifies the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to enhance the understanding and implementation of juvenile justice laws, ensuring the protection and welfare of children within the jurisdiction. |
