New Academic Session
3/26/2024 10:38:22 PM

As we stand on the brink of a new academic session, it’s imperative to underscore the crucial role of vigilant oversight over the operations of schools. While the commencement of a new session heralds fresh beginnings and opportunities for students, parents, and educators alike, it also brings to light the pressing need for ensuring that educational institutions uphold principles of fairness, accessibility, and accountability.
At the forefront of this vigilance lies the responsibility to prevent the proliferation of exploitative practices such as the imposition of capitation fees and mandatory purchases of uniforms and stationery from specific vendors.
One of the primary concerns that demand vigilant oversight is the issue of capitation fees. This clandestine practice involves schools charging exorbitant fees beyond the official tuition to secure admissions, often exploiting the vulnerability of parents who are eager to secure quality education for their children. Such fees, often demanded under the guise of donations or development charges, not only place undue financial strain on families but also perpetuate inequalities by erecting barriers to education based on economic status.
By keeping a watchful eye on schools to ensure they do not levy capitation fees, authorities can safeguard the fundamental principle that education should be accessible to all, irrespective of socio-economic backgrounds.
Furthermore, the insistence on purchasing uniforms and stationery from designated shops represents another facet of exploitative practices that necessitates stringent oversight. Many schools mandate that students procure their uniforms and stationery solely from specified vendors, often at inflated prices. This not only undermines the freedom of choice but also places an undue burden on parents who may find themselves compelled to purchase goods at marked-up rates, regardless of their financial circumstances. By enforcing regulations that prohibit such coercive practices, authorities can promote fairness and affordability within the educational landscape, ensuring that educational resources are accessible to all without discrimination.
Moreover, the ramifications of unchecked exploitation within the educational sphere extend beyond mere financial strain. They infringe upon the fundamental principles of equity and inclusivity that underpin the fabric of our society. Education serves as the cornerstone of social mobility, offering individuals the opportunity to transcend barriers and fulfill their potential. However, when educational institutions engage in exploitative practices, they undermine the very essence of this transformative power, perpetuating cycles of disadvantage and hindering the realization of a truly equitable society.
