Psychological Support for Young Adults: Lecture at GDC Bishnah

Jammu, Mar 28: In a commendable initiative, Govt. Degree College, Bishnah, in collaboration with the Department of Education and Department of Zoology, along with IQAC, organized an extension lecture on “Psychological Support for Young Adults with Down Syndrome and Learning Difficulties” on March 28, 2024. Under the guidance of Principal Dr. Shallu Samyal, the college aimed to address the pressing need for understanding and supporting young adults facing such challenges.
Dr. Piyali Arora, Assistant Professor from the Department of Psychology at Government Degree College (Boys), Udhampur, graced the event as the invited speaker. In her interactive session, Dr. Arora shed light on the psychological intricacies encountered by individuals with Down syndrome and Learning Difficulties. She emphasized the importance of gaining insights into their unique challenges and imparted practical strategies to offer effective support, fostering a more inclusive environment.
Furthermore, Dr. Arora’s insightful presentation also tackled the issue of examination stress, offering valuable coping strategies to enhance students’ performance in upcoming exams. Senior faculty members, including Prof. Anju Bala, Prof. Hardeep Kour, Dr. Nisar Bulla, and Dr. Vasudha Choudhari, graced the occasion with their presence, adding to the significance of the event.
The coordination of the lecture was led by Dr. Preeti Mahajan and Dr. Ashma Gupta, faculty members from the Departments of Education and Zoology, respectively. The event facilitated a healthy interaction between students and the speaker, enriching their understanding and fostering empathy towards individuals with Down syndrome and Learning Difficulties. Overall, the extension lecture served as a significant step towards building a more supportive and inclusive society for individuals facing such challenges.
