GDC Vijaypur organizes Special Lecture on Drug Abuse

Jammu, Apr 23: To generate awareness among the students and general masses regarding drug abuse, a Special Lecture on the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” was organized by Nasha Mukt Committee and NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur in collaboration with District Police Samba. NSS volunteers and college students participated in the lecture with great enthusiasm, zeal and fervor.
Proceedings of the event were carried out by Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal. Welcome address was presented by Prof. Anita Jamwal (HOD, Political Science). Prof. Anita Jamwal, in her welcome address, quoted Mahatma Gandhi’s and Nelson Mandela’s contribution in making society drugs free. She stressed upon the need of holding such awareness programmes in an institution where young youth is being imparted all-round education.
The resource person Sh. Garu Ram Bhardwaj, DySP, Rakh, Samba in her lecture introduced the working of Police Department in curbing drug abuse.
He interacted with the students and made them aware about how Police can help them in any type of problem related to drug abuse. In his talk, he emphasised on the psychological impacts of drug abuse on the addicts as well as on their families. He also narrated certain case studies conducted in Samba district. In his presentation, he introduced the overall scenario of drug abuse in district Samba. He also addressed the volunteers about how to remain alert against drug traffickers and how to approach district Police Samba in case they find something suspicious around them or in their localities or institution. He also advised college administration to conduct awareness programmes and certain specialized workshops in order to identify such drug abusers if any in and around the institution.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Anita Jamwal, Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat (Convenor Nasha Mukt Committee), Dr. Ritu Bhagat, Prof. Poonam Kundan, Dr. Manoj Heer, Dr. Naseem Chowdhary and co-coordinated by Prof. Renuka Kundan, Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo, Dr. Radhika Rasyal. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Naseem Chowdhary, NSS PO. Refreshment was distributed to all the participants.
