Jammu, Apr 30: In a pioneering move to dismantle taboos surrounding menstrual health, the Ujaas Menstrual Health Express has embarked on a groundbreaking journey to Jammu and Kashmir. Led by the visionary Ms. Advaitesha Birla, founder of Ujaas and backed by the Aditya Birla Education Trust, this initiative aims to revolutionize perceptions and practices related to menstrual health and hygiene in the region. Encountering unique challenges in an area where menstrual health discussions are often shrouded in taboo, the Ujaas team, in collaboration with local NGO partner SR Asia, has initiated a transformative campaign targeting adolescent girls and women across Jammu and Kashmir. Through a series of informative workshops and community engagements, Ujaas seeks to instill awareness, challenge myths, and provide essential knowledge on menstrual health and hygiene management. At the heart of this initiative lies the specially designed Menstrual Health Express Van, symbolizing change and inclusivity. Travelling across 25 states and 107 cities, covering over 27,000 kilometers by road, the van serves as a beacon of progress, bridging gaps in education and access to menstrual hygiene products. Speaking passionately about the initiative, Ms. Advaitesha Birla emphasized its significance, stating, “The Ujaas Menstrual Health Express is not just a van; it is a symbol of change, breaking barriers, and fostering a society where menstrual health is a right, not a taboo.” This campaign is not merely about distribution; it is about education, empowerment, and advocacy. With a commitment to distributing over 250,000 menstrual pads nationwide, Ujaas aims to catalyze lasting change, creating a society that is informed, aware, and supportive of menstrual health and hygiene. As the journey unfolds, Ujaas invites media, community leaders, and the public to join hands in supporting this transformative initiative, contributing to the creation of a more equitable and enlightened society. |
