Early Times Report JAMMU, May 4: Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organized a Ru-Ba-Ru, Meet the Eminent programme on Punjabi writer Harbhajan Singh Sagar under the able guidance of Secretary JKAACL. Sahit Akademi Awardee Khalid Hussain was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas S. Kanwal Kashmiri presided over the programme. S. Popinder Singh Paras, Editor, Sheeraza Punjabi, JKAACL shared the dais. Well known intellectuals, writers and family members of Sagar attended the programme. Popinder Singh Paras welcomed all the guests, writers and others. While speaking on this occasion he said that JKAACL has organized a number of literary events, including Meet the Eminent programmes, during the last year. In his presidential address, S. Kanwal Kashmiri elaborated on the life work and contribution of S. Harbhajan Singh Sagar. Sh. Khalid Hussain, in his address shared his experiences in the field of literature, with H.S Sagar. According to Khalid Hussain, eminent Punjabi short story writer of Jammu & Kasmir, 'Some of his short stories like Pension Case, Lalded Diyan Asthiyan, Badshah Kithey Hai? Etc. are having a world class standard level.' S. Ajit Singh Mastana, Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn and Joginder Singh Pandhi also expressed their views in the programme. A collection of his articles on literary criticism, titled 'Harbhajan Singh Sagar Di Sahitik Drishti', compiled & edited by S. Popinder Singh Paras, was released in the programme. The articles included in the book are based on the life, personality and the works of various writers of Jammu & Kashmir. S. Harbhajan Singh Sagar, a renowned Urdu and Punjabi short story writer of Jammu & Kashmir is blessed with the practice of short story writing as well as literary criticism. Started writing in Urdu and his stories were published in many Urdu magazines like Aaj Kal, Beesvin Sadi, Paaswaan, E Adab, Ruby etc. Afterwards, when he got interactions with other well known Punjabi writers of Kashmir, he started writing short stories in Punjabi. He has presented his short stories in a number of conferences in Jammu & Kasmir, Punjab and New Delhi. Three books of short stories, titled 'Yatri', 'Dayira' and 'Band Darvaaje Da Birtaant', written by Harbhajan Singh Sagar have been published so far. He has been awarded with Best Book Award twice by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages. The vote of thanks was extended by Sh. Jang S.Verman, artist / colummist on art / culture. |
