In these above cited polls, the deputation informed that around 1000 displaced Kashmiri Pandits returned back home without casting their votes and hence, the basic purpose of exercising their right was denied because their names were missing from the voter lists even as they had voter identity cards. The deputation said that the officials' negligence and incompetence impacted the election process which needs to be worked out so that such things are avoided in coming polls. "The voting percent could have been higher, but due to the incompetence of the officials concerned, the voter's names were not listed in the voter lists, and hence, they were denied permission to cast their votes," they added. After listening to the deputation patiently, the Relief Commissioner assured that he would ensure that such things should not happen in the elections. He informed the deputation that the officials have been directed to add the left out voters in the voting lists, and ensure that the displaced voters could cast their votes. |
