Early Times Report SAMBA, May 16: Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi has developed a concept of relaying digital torch among different KVKs throughout the country to mark the Golden Jubliee Celebration of establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in India. The first KVK was established in 1974 in Puducherry. Under the patronage of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, the Golden torch has been transferred to Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba by Dr. Punit Choudhary, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Jammu. The ceremony of handover of torch is arranged by Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu. During the occasion, Dr. Hema Tripathi, Associate Director Extension highlighted the importance of celebrating Golden Jubilee foundation of KVKs. In India, there are 731 KVKs working for uplifting the economy of farmers in India. Krishi Vigyan Kendras are the centres for agriculture extension created by Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and its affiliated institutions at the district level. KVKs are an integral part of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) and serve as the link between the NARS and the farmers. In addition, KVKs are playing crucial role in transfer of technology from lab to land and also produce quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, livestock) and make it available to farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programmes within the mandate of KVK. Dr. Hema Tripathi lauded the efforts of all KVK staff for their outstanding service to the farming community. She underlined the necessity for KVKs to act as district agri-tech epicentres for entrepreneurship development and livelihood security of the farmers. The event was attended by Dr. Jasbir Singh Manhas, Dr. Pawan K Sharma, Dr. Sudhir Jamwal and supporting staff of the University. |
