Rural Women Conclave at RS Pura, Suchetgarh: A landmark event in empowering women | | | Early Times Report RS PURA, May 26: The first-ever Rural Women Conclave, held in RS Pura and Suchetgarh, marked a significant milestone in the empowerment of rural women. The event was inaugurated by Anissa Nabi JKAS, the State Project Manager of the J&K State Rural Livelihood Mission (JKSRLM). Organized by Dr. Navneet Kaur, the founder of NGO SUPPORT, and co-hosted by Sh. Vinod Shandli, founder of JK JKS, and Kunwarani Ritu Singh, the conclave attracted over 350 women participants. The conclave aligned with the Prime Minister's mission to empower rural women, focusing on skill-based education for young girls and women. It featured 12 speakers who addressed the challenges faced by rural women and proposed solutions to overcome these issues. Anissa Nabi presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Key Highlights and Initiatives Recognition and Awards: The Adi Shakti awards were presented to 12 women for their exceptional contributions. Awardees included Deputy Superintendent Dr. Sanjogita, Dr. Pratiksha, Manjeet Kaur, Manmeet Bali, Anjum Imtiaz, Nisha Kapoor, Sawarn Lal, Narinder Kumar, Reeta Sharma, and Sarpanch Ms. Kanta Sharma, among others. Skill Development and Livelihood: The conclave emphasized the need for skill development and market exploration. Ms. Anissa Nabi highlighted the importance of initiatives like Mission Umeed, which focuses on design development, quality improvement, and market interventions to provide livelihood opportunities for rural women. NGO SUPPORT and JK JKS Initiatives: Dr. Navneet Kaur and Sh. Vinod Shandli elaborated on the efforts of NGO SUPPORT and JK JKS in providing skill training and entrepreneurial activities. They have launched small canteen initiatives in 30 villages, benefiting over 700 women and girls. Future Projects: Ashok Sharma, representing Kunwarani Ritu Singh, presented upcoming projects aimed at skill-based training and income generation for women and girls in rural areas. Addressing Social and Economic Challenges The conclave shed light on the various social and economic challenges faced by rural women, such as: Financial Dependency: Many rural women lack economic independence and are often dependent on male counterparts. Social Stigma: Women in rural areas face social stigma and are often not allowed to work outside their homes. Lack of Education: Low literacy levels and lack of awareness hinder the empowerment of women. Violence and Harassment: Women are often victims of domestic violence and social discrimination. Empowering Rural Women: The Way Forward The conclave underscored the need for a shift in mindset towards women's empowerment. Education and awareness are critical to this change. The event also highlighted the importance of forming self-help groups (SHGs) to provide women with a platform to utilize their skills and contribute to the economy. |
