5/30/2024 10:22:28 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 30: In furtherance to its aim and objective to aspire for the overall good health of the police personnel and their families, Dr. Meenakshi Kotwal Medical Superintendent Police Hospital Jammu alongwith the team of Doctors of Police Hospital Jammu was pleased to organize an “Awareness Session cum Screening Camp on Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)” today in the conference Hall of DPL Jammu in collaboration with the department of General Medicine, AIIMS Vijaypur.
The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Sanjay Sharma during which he expressed gratitude toward the team of doctors and other paramedics of AlIMS Vijaypur to be part of this initiative to enlighten the police personnel and their families regarding the silent killer “hypertension”. The Doctors of the Department of General Medicine, AlIMS Vijaypur, were honoured by way of presenting flower pots to them by Dr. Meenakshi Kotwal, Medical Supdt. Police Hospital, Jammu.
Thereafter, Dr. Taranpreet Kour, Asstt. Professor, Deptt. of Medicine, AIIMS Vijaypur and other two doctors namely Dr. Kiran and Dr. Ritu addressed the police personnel present during the camp and gave them a detailed briefing about hypertension, its causes, symptoms and treatment. The participants were briefed to remain careful and watchful about the disease of hypertension (both symptomatic and asymptomatic) by way of undergoing regular health check-ups, especially after the age of 40 years, even if a person feels fit and healthy. It was stressed upon the participants that early detection of hypertension not only helps in following the changed lifestyle timely but also prevent them from the serious damage caused to the other vital organs of the body if such disease gets unnoticed.
In order to have better understanding of the disease of hypertension, a skit was also performed by the paramedical staff of AIIMS Vijaypur before the participating
police personnel present during the camp. Through this skit, the message was conveyed that repeated negligence of patients towards such disease sometimes lands them into serious problems/complications which can prove deadly/fatal. As such it was reiterated that the prescribed treatment of the doctor and proper diet plan needs to be strictly followed to avoid the serious fallout of the disease.
Dr. Meenakshi Kotwal, MS Police Hospital Jammu during her address stressed upon the participants to strictly act upon the advice given by the visiting doctors and also carry the message forward and share the same with their family members and co-workers. At the same time, they were advised to undergo regular health check-up at Police Hospital Jammu which is providing the services round the clock to rule out any health issues.
Thereafter all the participants (police personnel who had come from different units of JKAP/IRP Bns. of District Jammu) got medically checked/screened by the visiting doctors of AIIMS Vijaypur in a very disciplined manner.
During such screening out of the total number of 99 police personnel 56 were found hypertensive and were advised with proper treatment and regular follow up. Towards the end of the camp the Doctors and paramedical staff of AIIMS Vijaypur were served with lunch followed by distribution of certificate of participation among them by the Medical Superintendent Police Hospital Jammu.
