HRAK Delegation Urges Tourism Secretary to Enhance Vaishnodevi Pilgrims’ Stay and Boost Tourism Sector | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 2: A delegation from the Hotel & Restaurant Association, Katra (HRAK), led by its President Rakesh Wazir, met with Commissioner Secretary Tourism Ms. Yasha Mudgal to discuss key issues related to the tourism and hotel industries. The meeting was also attended by Joint Director Tourism Sunaina Sharma Mehta, Deputy Director Tourism Savita Chouhan, and Assistant Director Tourism Ambika Bali. Mr. Wazir emphasized the necessity of extending the stay of the 1 crore annual Vaishnodevi pilgrims by developing nearby tourist attractions such as Shiv Khori, Patnitop, Nathatop, Sanasar, Bhaderwah, Mansar, Surinsar, Kol Kandoli, and Deva Mai. He advocated for industrial benefits to be extended to the tourism sector, including providing power to hotels at industrial rates and GST reimbursement similar to that in the manufacturing industry. He also called for the initiation of ropeway projects at Shiv Khori and Sanasar, as well as the commencement of a long-sanctioned separate water scheme for hotels. Additionally, Mr. Wazir highlighted the importance of framing policies that enable local businesses to compete in the allocation of land for new five-star hotels. Chairman Sham Lal Kesar discussed the historical context of hotel and guest house registrations, noting that the process has traditionally focused on the condition and sellability of these establishments without requiring multiple NOCs from different departments. He raised concerns about the recent halt in registrations and renewals of tourism units, urging for a streamlined registration process under the Department of Industries. Mr. Virender Kesar emphasized the need for independent functioning of various departments with their vast powers. He called for the Tourism Department to focus on developing and promoting new tourist destinations in the Union Territory (UT) to attract more visitors and support the growth of the tourism industry. He stressed that the registration process should be simplified to ease doing business. Ms. Mudgal listened attentively to the delegation’s concerns and assured them of sympathetic consideration for each point raised. She promised immediate action on matters within her purview and committed to taking up other issues with the relevant higher authorities. |
