YCET celebrated World Environment Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 6: Every year on June 5, the world observes World Environment Day as a way to promote environmental awareness, encourage good environmental action, and save the environment and Earth. It is a day to encourage everyone on the earth to engage in eco-friendly endeavors. Keeping this thought in mind YCET Celebrated "World Environment Day" by conducting Panel Discussion of Faculty members on the theme- "Our land and Our Future". The discussion proved to be an excellent way to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainability among students and faculty. In order to encourage interaction and knowledge sharing among educators, a panel discussion was initiated by Er. K.R. Sharma, Er. Rajnish Magotra, and Er. Loveneesh Talwar. They discussed their opinions and insights on a range of environmental concerns. Er. Dinesh Gupta's discussion on conservation measures served as crucial aspect for motivating action. Promoting renewable energy, cutting waste and recycling, preserving biodiversity, and supporting sustainable business and agricultural practices were the few recurrent themes. He encouraged the listeners to plant trees more and more and also take care of them. He suggested some ways of saving electricity, fuel, etc. which in turn will save the environment. Using fuel judiciously is indeed vital for environmental conservation. Encouraging practices like carpooling, using public transportation, and investing in fuel-efficient vehicles can all contribute to reducing fuel consumption and minimizing pollution. Reducing the use of air conditioning both in vehicles and buildings is a great way to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Encouraging the use of natural ventilation, shading, and energy-efficient cooling systems can all help minimize reliance on Air conditioners. Further ahead Faculty members also shared their ideas of terrace gardening, using air conditioners at the default factory set temperature, using earthen pots instead of refrigerator water, using homemade manure from the waste accumulated at our homes. Various ideas on the aspect of three R's were shared (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). Ideas on Reusing materials such as tyres, CDs, etc for interior décor enlightened the listeners. It was discussed that environmentally friendly materials should be used in infrastructure projects which can significantly reduce the ecological footprint of construction and promote sustainability. Using materials like recycled or sustainably sourced wood, bamboo, eco-friendly concrete, and energy-efficient insulation can all contribute to a greener built environment. In the last a powerful conclusion came that everyone should take care of existing trees and each one should plant more trees which plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change, improving air quality, conserving water, and providing habitat for wildlife. It's a simple yet impactful way for individuals and communities to contribute to a healthier planet. The session was concluded by Er. B.R. Verma. He encouraged the panel to follow the active steps towards the protection of environment. At last keeping in mind that "Charity Begins At Home" every faculty member Took pledge to make YCET college campus greener and plastic-free, which will lead to sustainability. Implementing initiatives like planting more trees, promoting recycling, reducing plastic usage, and encouraging eco-friendly practices among students and staff can all contribute to creating a healthier and more environmentally friendly campus.
