Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 10: The NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, proudly announced the launch of their annual adoption campaign, "Veerangana," for the academic year 2024-25. This initiative, spearheaded under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, aims to uplift and develop the community through dedicated efforts and innovative activities. The campaign focuses on adopting two schools, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Gole Gujral, and Government (Boys) Higher Secondary School, Gole Gujral, along with the villages Ranjit Pura, Kharbooja, and Ram Dasiya under the Ranjit Pura Panchayat. The adoption initiative is driven by the objective to improve living conditions and provide developmental support to these institutions and villages. Dr. Preeti Salathia, the NSS Programme Officer, organized the inaugural function, which saw active participation from members of the community, institutions, and villages. In her welcoming address, Dr. Salathia emphasized the campaign's goal to introduce new development ideas to the villages, aiming to significantly enhance their living standards. She outlined future activities such as awareness programmes, nukkad nataks highlighting social issues, distribution of menstrual hygiene products, plantation drives, and cleanliness drives. Principal Prof. Dr. Meeru Abrol, in her speech, highlighted the importance of the NSS Unit's role in bridging the gap between students and the community. She pointed out that the campaign would offer students and staff a comprehensive understanding of village life, livelihood sources, and the challenges faced by rural communities. This initiative will sensitize students to the realities of rural life, fostering a sense of responsibility and service. "The adoption campaign is not just about ideation but about moving towards action. It provides an invaluable opportunity for NSS volunteers and faculty to serve society and apply the principles learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios," said Prof. Dr. Meeru Abrol. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, who expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving the campaign's objectives.
