Early Times Report
Jammu, June 16: A group of enthusiastic trekkers from The Shri Ram Universal School, Jakh, recently returned to Jammu after an exhilarating trekking expedition from McLeod Ganj to Flag Point on the Dharamkot (Mini Israel) to Triund trek. The adventure included visits to Bhagshu Nag, the waterfall, Dharamshala Cricket Stadium, Tapovan, Chamunda Devi, Norbulingka Monastery, Nagini Devi, a sprawling tea garden, and a tea manufacturing company where the students learned about the complete tea production process. The highlight of the program was the visit to the Dalai Lama Temple in McLeod Ganj, also known as “Little Lhasa,” where they were overwhelmed by the serene spiritual ambiance. The trekking group was led by senior members of Tawi Trekkers J&K, Sourav Deep Singh, a trained mountaineer, and Bhanu Partap Singh. The General Secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Sonam Sidharth, along with Sukhsam Verma and Vikas Singh, who were stationed at Chamunda, managed all the boarding and lodging arrangements for the trekkers. Tawi Trekkers J&K organizes its Himalayan Trekking Programme in two phases. The first phase concludes before the onset of monsoons, while the second phase, known as the Himalayan Heritage Trekking Programme, starts post-monsoon. This program is followed by one-day treks in various areas, including Surinsar-Mansar, Katal Batal to Aitham (Surinsar), Sagoon to Purmandal, and treks from Mohore Garh, Dhergarh, and Bhupnergarh to Mansar, besides treks to Devi Pindian (Katra). Every year, over one thousand students participate in these one-day treks. The aim of organizing these short treks for school and college students is to instill a spirit of adventure, a love for nature, and, above all, a supreme sense of self-confidence, shaping them into bold and responsible future leaders and builders of the country. |
