Kavinder lambasts Mehbooba for remarks against Int'l Yoga Day celebrations in Srinagar
6/20/2024 10:55:55 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 20: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta on Thursday lambasted PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for her dissuading remarks against the International Yoga Day celebrations to be held in Srinagar under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP stalwart leader slammed Mehbooba Mufti for her baseless and unwarranted comments, asserting that her statements are detrimental to the spirit of unity and wellness promoted by Yoga Day.
In a scathing response, the senior BJP leader stated, "Mehbooba Mufti's stand against the International Yoga Day celebrations are not only unfounded but also reflect a lack of understanding of the universal benefits of Yoga. Her comments are a disservice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have wholeheartedly embraced this initiative aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being."
He emphasized that the International Yoga Day, celebrated globally, transcends political and regional boundaries.
It is pertinent to mention that Mehbooba has tweeted in response to an activist's post on aforesaid celebrations that an occasion for celebration has become one that fills people with dread.
Kavinder said that Mehbooba has a habit of creating unnecessary controversies. He said that if she is not interested in participating in the aforesaid event, she is welcome to abstain from the same but her stand against the Yoga Day celebrations showcases her sick mentality because she is trying to associate the Yoga with the Sanatan Dharma, which is not true as this is part and parcel of Indian sub continent's culture since the inception of humankind and has nothing to do with a particular religion. He highlighted that Yoga is a cultural heritage that fosters peace, harmony, and health, and should not be politicized.
"Prime Minister Modi's vision for a healthier and more harmonious society through Yoga is commendable and has received global recognition. Mehbooba Mufti's attempt to politicize this noble initiative is unfortunate and misguided," he said, adding that the BJP remains committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to the well-being of all citizens and will continue to advocate for programmes that unite and uplift the community. He reiterated the party's dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
