THANNAMANDI, June 26: The Red Ribbon Club and the NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Thannamandi, observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with great enthusiasm and commitment. The event saw active participation from all staff and students under the patronage of Principal Dr. Farooq Ahmed.
The highlight of the day was an extensive talk delivered by Dr. Ashaq Malik, focusing on the 2024 theme, Evidence is clear: Invest in prevention, and the significance of the day. Dr. Malik emphasized the importance of prevention, awareness, and understanding the consequences of drug abuse. His insightful talk provided valuable information on how to combat drug abuse effectively through education and proactive measures.
Dr. Malik began by elucidating this year's theme, shedding light on its relevance to the current global scenario of drug abuse and the pressing need for collective action. He highlighted the multifaceted impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society at large, painting a vivid picture of the social, economic, and health-related consequences. In his comprehensive address, Dr. Malik stressed the critical role of education in preventing drug abuse. He outlined various strategies for raising awareness, including school and community-based programs that educate young people about the dangers of drug use. Dr. Malik also spoke about the importance of early intervention and support systems to help those at risk or already affected by drug abuse.
Principal Dr. Farooq Ahmed also addressed the gathering, shedding light on the social and emotional aspects of drug abuse. His deliberation underscored the collective responsibility of the community in supporting individuals affected by drug addiction and fostering a supportive environment for recovery. Dr. Farooq began his address by discussing the profound social impact of drug abuse, explaining how it affects not just the individual, but also their family and the broader community. He highlighted the importance of understanding the underlying emotional issues that often lead to substance abuse, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Ahmed emphasized the need for empathy and compassion in dealing with those struggling with addiction, urging the community to adopt a non-judgmental and supportive approach.
