Ex-corporator Sham Lal Basson demands immediate release of halted pensions for vulnerable groups
6/29/2024 10:09:47 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 29: A press conference was organized by Sham Lal Basson, ex-corporator of Ward No. 48 Bahu Fort, Jammu, addressing the pressing issue of pension release for widows, physically challenged individuals, and the elderly. The pensions were halted following the issuance of Order No. 156 of 2022, which imposed stringent conditions, including the requirement of a PHH ration card.
During the press conference, Sham Lal Basson expressed his deep concern over the government's decision to stop the monthly pension of Rs. 1,000, which had been a critical support for many vulnerable individuals. He pointed out the disparity by highlighting that people were expecting an increase in pension amounts, similar to other states, but were instead met with the shock of losing their financial aid.
Basson emphasized the extensive efforts made to resolve the issue, including numerous press conferences, agitations, and submission of memorandums to the concerned authorities, all of which have so far been in vain. He strongly urged the repeal or amendment of Order No. 156 of 2022 to remove the condition of requiring a PHH ration card. He also highlighted the unresponsiveness of the CAPD department in processing applications for PHH ration cards, exacerbating the suffering of pension holders.
In a heartfelt appeal, Sham Lal Basson called upon the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory for personal intervention to facilitate the immediate release of pensions to the affected groups. He warned that if the LG administration fails to act, a mass agitation involving widows, the elderly, and physically challenged individuals who have been denied pension benefits will be initiated.
Other speakers at the press conference included Sh. Thoru Ram, Hans Raj, Moti Ram Angral, and Kamal Kalsotra, who echoed Basson's sentiments and called for urgent action to address the grievances of the pension holders.
