Jammu, June 29: A five day successful product training workshop under the ‘Culture and Conflict’ Project was concluded by Yakjah Reconciliation and Development Network in collaboration with Government Polytechnic College, Jammu. The workshop was attended by 18 women artisans in Jammu and Kashmir. They were trained to develop a product line in Basholi miniature art, Aaari and Sozni embroidery. The workshop resource person was Amod Ranjan from Rangsutra Crafts India, a leading brand in handmade products by women artisans. The Chief guest Mrs. Leena Padha JKAS, Director Skill Mission, Principal Government Polytechnic College, Dr. Renu Nanda, Head of Department of Education, University of Jammu, Prof. Archana Kaul, Principal, Government Degree College, Ramban, Mr. Khalid Sheikh, representative of the Skill Mission awarded the certificates to the artisans. In her speech Mrs. Leena Padha appreciated the efforts of Yakjah and the artisans. She ensured full support of her institution in advancing the agenda of sustainable livelihood and capacity building of the artisans. Long term partnerships with different educational institutions were also discussed with the honorable guests. Project lead and Founder of Yakjah, thanked the eminent guests for offering institutional support for promoting local handicrafts, skills and women led development. Yakaj’s community mobilisers Akshay Sharma, Anamika Bharti and Urzeeba Bhat were present during the five day workshop. The artisans will now work on the final product prototypes to create a range of product line for different markets. |
