Pouni, July 1: As the new criminal laws take effect, the first FIR has been registered at Police Station Pouni, Reasi. Today, a written complaint was received at Police Station Pouni through PP Bhambla. The complaint states that Malik Wasim Sadiq, S/O Ghulam Mohd Sadiq, R/O Channi Rama, District Jammu, was driving from Kalidhar towards Sunderbani, Rajouri in a rash and negligent manner. At approximately 0735 hrs, near Godhar Khalsa on Kalidhar NHW, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and fall into a gorge approximately 150 feet deep. As a result, the driver and two passengers sustained injuries and were transported by locals to Sunderbani Hospital for treatment. Upon receiving this information, a case has been registered at Police Station Pouni under FIR No. 34/2024 U/S 281, 125(A) BNS (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita), 2023, and an investigation has been initiated. It is pertinent to mention that, from now on, all FIRs will be filed under the provisions of BNS (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita) 2023. However, cases registered before July 01 will continue to be tried under IPC (Indian Penal Code), Cr.PC (Criminal Procedure Code), and Indian Evidence Act until their final disposal. The registration of this FIR highlights the commitment of District Police Reasi to modernize the legal processes and provide timely justice. This historic registration underscores the district police’s dedication to modernizing legal processes, ensuring timely justice, and strengthening the rule of law. It sets a precedent for the effective implementation of the new criminal law framework in the district. District Police Reasi organized Thana Diwas today, focusing on the new criminal laws: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). The event, aimed at educating civil and police officers of District Reasi, was held in the Auditorium of DC Office Reasi. This initiative is part of District Police Reasi’s continuous efforts to keep the police force and civil administration updated on legal advancements and ensures effective law enforcement. Thana Diwas was attended by distinguished guests including DIG Udhampur Reasi Range, Sh. Rayees Mohammad Bhat-IPS, SSP Reasi, Ms. Mohita Sharma-IPS, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Sh. Vishesh Paul Mahajan-JKPS, Addl. SP Reasi, Addl. SP Katra, Dy.SP Hqrs. Reasi, Dy.SP DAR DPL Reasi, Dy.SP Telecom, ACR, SDMs, citizens of District Reasi, and other police officers of the district. The event was conducted under the guidance of SSP Reasi, Ms. Mohita Sharma-IPS. The primary objective of the session was to sensitize and educate civil and police officers about the three new criminal laws scheduled to be implemented from July 01, 2024, ensuring that they are well-versed with the new legal framework. Thana Diwas marks a significant step towards equipping civil officers, the police force, and citizens of District Reasi with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement the new criminal laws effectively, ensuring a more robust law enforcement mechanism. |
