Jammu, July 1: In a significant development, the first FIR under the new criminal law provisions of the Bharatiya Nagrik Sanhita (BNS) has been successfully registered at the Model Police Station in Doda, Jammu division. This landmark case, bearing FIR number 170/2024, marks a notable milestone in the region’s legal enforcement framework. The FIR was registered under sections 281 and 125(a) BNS of the new law, symbolizing the commencement of a new legal era in the country. A police officer noted that this first FIR under the BNS sections was registered on the very first day of the law’s enactment. The historic moment occurred at midnight on June 30, as the nation bid farewell to the British-era colonial laws of the late nineteenth century. The introduction of these new criminal laws reflects a significant leap forward, prioritizing the aspirations and wishes of the nation while integrating local, cultural, civilizational, and moral ethos. The enactment of the trio Sanhitas in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir empowers the J&K Police to utilize the latest digital technology, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, and drone technology. This advanced technological integration aims to enhance the precision and swiftness of crime investigation, prevention, and detection, while ensuring continuous observation and surveillance across multiple platforms. The initiative is expected to foster a more peaceful and crime-free society, making the police force more accountable, transparent, responsible, and trustworthy. As the J&K Police uphold and enforce the new laws with the highest standards, it is hoped that they will continue to achieve new milestones in the coming times, thereby strengthening the legal and security framework of the region. |
