Early Times Report JAMMU, July 6: In a ceremony held at the Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu (ZPHQ), Anand Jain IPS, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu Zone, felicitated Umar Ashraf, an Indian Deaf cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir. The event was graced by the presence of Ranjeet Kalra, Member of the J&K Government UT Sports Council, who joined Anand Jain in honoring the special cricketer. Umar Ashraf represented India as a member of the deaf cricket team in a bilateral series played in England from June 18th to 27th, 2024. The series witnessed a stellar performance by the Indian team, which emerged victorious by winning five out of the seven matches. Anand Jain, while commending Umar Ashraf for his extraordinary talent and unwavering commitment, expressed his happiness over Umar's participation in the series. "Umar has made all of us proud. It is inspiring to see an outstanding cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir representing India and bringing laurels to our country. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours," Jain remarked. On this occasion, Sh. Anand Jain also praised Sh. Ranjeet Kalra for his exceptional contribution towards the promotion of sports, especially for specially-abled players. In recognition of Umar Ashraf's achievements, Anand Jain presented a memento on behalf of the J&K Police to the cricketer. It is pertinent to mention that the Indian deaf cricket team was earlier felicitated by the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virender Kumar, upon their return from England. |
