Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrates 96th ICAR Foundation, Technology Day | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, July 16: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated the 96th Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Foundation and Technology Day here today at KVK, Reasi campus which was enthusiastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Honble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Prof. B.N.Tripathi and Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-Jammu. Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. While speaking during the inaugural session he highlighted the achievements of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the growth and development of the farmers. He said that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. He added that the ICAR is one of the largest national agricultural systems in the world with its spread across the nation. He narrated that the ICAR with its strenuous efforts helped to provide the self-sufficiency in food grains and nutritional security in India. He educated the farmers about the agricultural research, education and technologies developed by the ICAR and its institutions. He also informed the participants that presently the ICAR has established 731 KVKs across the nation and these KVKs are mitigating the scientific agricultural needs of the farmers and are helping in human resource development in agriculture and allied sectors through capacity building programmes. He narrated that the ICAR plays a significant role in promoting excellence in higher education in agriculture. Dr. Sanjay Kaushal said that the ICAR has played a pioneering role in ushering Green Revolution and subsequent agricultural developments and research across the country.He stressed on turmeric cultivation in monkeys prone areas and guided farmers on the value addition in spices. During the programme some progressive farmers of the area were also present who shared their valuable experiences with the other farmers. Participants also visited the technological units established at KVK, Reasi and showed keen interest in the technologies demonstrated by the KVK. During the programme a live webcast from ICAR New Delhi of the programme was also arranged for the participants. In this programme some quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientists answered in a very satisfactorily way. The scientists interacted with the participants and stressed on natural farming, innovative technologies, climate resilient agriculture and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) formation. The programme was assisted by Sh. Manohar Lal and Sh. Mohd. Iqbal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks. |
