Early Times Report JAMMU, July 21: Natrang captivated audiences with its impressive performance of "Reed-Rahit" as part of the Sunday Theatre Series at its Studio Theatre. Directed by Neeraj Kant, the play is an adaptation of Russian writer Anton Chekhov's "Nincompoop," and delivers a powerful message about self-respect and the dignity of labor. The play opens in the house of a landlord who seeks to settle accounts with his children's instructor, whom he hasn't paid for two months. In an elaborate ruse, the landlord attempts to teach the instructor a lesson about self-worth. Despite being owed Rs. 8,000, the instructor is only offered Rs. 1,100 after various absurd deductions. The instructor, portrayed as competent but gullible, accepts the meager payment without protest. Frustrated by the instructor's spineless behavior, the landlord explodes in anger, urging the instructor to stand up for his rights. He emphasizes that remaining silent allows others to exploit us, and that we must speak boldly and fight righteously for our due. The play concludes with the landlord paying the instructor the full Rs. 8,000, ending his human experiment and imparting a valuable lesson to the audience about the importance of asserting one's rights. The cast included Aadesh Dhar, Kushal Bhat, and Mihir Gujral, who brought their characters to life with compelling performances. Neeraj Kant also managed the lighting, enhancing the play's emotional impact. Priya Kumari presented the show, which was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen. Natrang's "Reed-Rahit" not only entertained but also inspired, leaving the audience with a renewed sense of the importance of self-respect and standing up against exploitation. |
