Early Times Report KATHUA, July 29: In an inspiring effort to contribute to a greener planet, the NCC unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua, under the esteemed guidance of Principal Prof. Seema Mir, organized a plantation drive themed "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam." This initiative aims to make Mother Earth green and clean, reflecting the commitment of the institution towards environmental conservation. Principal Prof. Seema Mir, addressing the students, emphasized the significance of such events, highlighting the rising temperatures on Earth due to increased industrialization and deforestation. She urged everyone to plant at least one sapling each year to combat these environmental challenges. The event commenced with the planting of a sapling by Prof. Mir in the college campus, followed by the plantation of various fruit and flowering plants by NCC Cadets across different departments. The main objective of this drive was to instill a sense of affection towards plants among people. With the alarming rise in temperatures leading to global warming, glacier depletion, and soil erosion, this initiative serves as a reminder of the urgent need to rectify the mistakes made in the pursuit of industrialization and socio-economic development. The event was meticulously organized under the supervision of Raj Kumari, with active participation from HoDs and faculty members including Jagdish Kumar (HoD Chemistry), Dr. Dinesh Jasrotia (HoD Physics), Dr. Sanjeev Gupta (HoD Botany), Shrdha Anand, Dr. Shivani Kotwal, Dr. R.K. Manhas, Dr. Pinkey, Dr. Shiv, Rakesh Sharma, and Arun Kumar. Their collective efforts ensured the success of the drive. NCC Cadets displayed immense joy and enthusiasm throughout the event, motivated and guided by Muneesh Jasrotia (CO NCC 2nd J&K Girls Battalion). The successful execution of the plantation drive reflects the continuous dedication of the GDC Kathua NCC unit towards fostering environmental responsibility among the youth. |
