SOTTO J&K organizes Valedictory Function of Organ Donation Month in GMC Anantnag

Srinagar, July 29: Jammu and Kashmir State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO J&K) organized a Valedictory Function of various awareness activities held from 22nd July 2024 to 25th July 2024 in view of Organ Donation Month (IODD) 2024 in Government Medical College Anantnag on 29th of July 2024, Monday.
While addressing the gathering Dr. Sajjad Majid Qazi, Professor, Department of ENT, Government Medical College Anantnag who graced the occasion as Chief Guest, said that there has been a large deficit between demand and availability of organs and tissues in India including Jammu and Kashmir and also expressed gratitude to SOTTO J&K for involving various nursing colleges of South Kashmir region and requested for more such events.
Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director SOTTO in his technical session, provided information on National Organ Transplant Programme (NOTP). He informed the audience that a person could save eight lives through organ donation and the Government has taken some positive steps for the same. He enlightened all the audience with his inspirational lecture and motivated them about Organ Donation.
Dr. Arif Hamid, Professor and Head, Urology and Kidney Transplant, SKIMS Soura presented the detailed report on Renal Transplant in the SKIMS in last 10years. He apprised that SKIMS have performed more than 700 transplants including swap donation till now.
Dr. Shazia Wafai, CMO (SAG), RoHFW, Srinagar appreciated the efforts of SOTTO J&K for organizing such events for this noble cause. She said since the inception of SOTTO many hospitals got registration for transplantation in J&K.
Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, HOD Bio Resources, University of Kashmir appreciated the efforts of SOTTO. He also mentioned about the upcoming events at University of Kashmir being organised by his department and requested the participants to be part of those events like First JK International conference on Breast cancer on 7-9th of October 2024 and invited the participants to register for the conference.
Audiance was thrilled to see the Declamation presentation in English & Urdu aa well as Nukkad Natak on organ donation theme were presented by the first winner students of the participating Nursing Colleges.

Dr Saima Jeelani, Asst. Prof Govt Nursing College Anantnag organized the function.
The programme witnessed the participation of Faculty, staff and Administration of GMC Anantnag, alongwith MDs, Principals, staff and students of Nursing Colleges.
Various activities in the Organ Donation Month were Poster making, Declamation in English and Urdu, Nukkad Natak and Model Presentation.
Colleges which participated were Florence Paramedical and Nursing Institute, Nai Basti; SET Paramedical and Nursing Institute; Bij Behara; Government Nursing College/GNM, Pulwama; South Kashmir Paramedical and Nursing College, Kulgam; Institute of Nursing, University of Kashmir, South Campus, Fatehgarh Anantnag, Government Nursing College, Anantnag and Dolphin Nursing College, Pulwama
The winners of all the events were felicitated during the Valedictory Programme.
