Div Com Jammu inaugurates Swachhata Pakhwada and ‘Ek Ped Shaheedo ke Naam’ plantation drive

JAMMU, Aug 1: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar today launched the Swachhata Pakhwada (Jashn-e-Safai Utsav) and a Plantation Drive under the banner “Ek Ped Shahidon Ke Naam” at Hari Singh Park and Balidaan Stambh.
The campaigns organised by district administration, in collaboration with the Jammu Municipal Corporation and the Forest Department saw the participation of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Commissioner JMC, along with other senior district, sectoral officers, DFO, Students and staff from different schools.
The tree-planting session under ‘Ek Ped Shaheedo ke Naam’ marked by the enthusiastic involvement of School students, senior officers, included the planting of various indigenous saplings.
In his address, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the indispensable role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and fostering sustainable development. He remarked on the adverse effects of modern lifestyles on the environment and stressed the urgency of taking corrective measures. “Untimely rains and high temperatures are alarming signs. In such a situation, plantation becomes crucial,” he stated.
The Div Com appealed everyone to actively participate in the campaigns that are being observed from August 01-15, 2024, to honour the Martyrs & contributing to clean & green Environment.
The Div Com further emphasised that these initiatives contribute significantly to increasing green cover and mitigating the impacts of climate change. He also underscored the importance of community-driven efforts in achieving lasting positive changes for the environment and society.
During the launch of the cleanliness drive, the Div Com called upon participants to commit to maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and to actively spread awareness about hygiene practices.
He articulated that the holistic approach aims to cultivate a cleaner, greener and more conscientious community, honouring the nation’s heroes, increasing the green cover and promoting cleanliness.
