Two-Day Seminar on "Community Policing" Begins at SKPA Udhampur | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Aug 8: A two-day seminar on "Community Policing" commenced today at the S.K. Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur, bringing together ten Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) from the J&K Police to deepen their understanding of this vital aspect of modern policing. The seminar is designed to cover key areas of community policing, including an overview of the concept, strategies for enhancing police-community relationships, and the use of counseling and mediation for grievance redressal at police stations. Special emphasis is being placed on the role of police stations as the primary unit for building community relations, the relevance of community policing in the current era, and the fundamentals of public outreach. Eminent guest faculty from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra, along with faculty from SKPA, are leading the seminar sessions. The event was inaugurated by Shri Rajinder Kumar Gupta, IPS, SSP, and Deputy Director (Indoor Training), who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Shri Gupta welcomed the participants on behalf of the Director of SKPA Udhampur and underscored the importance of community policing as a proactive approach to crime prevention. He emphasized that maintaining continuous contact with the public is a primary duty of police officers, essential for serving society and the nation. Gupta also highlighted the evolution of policing from its origins as a colonial tool of control to its current role as a service dedicated to citizen welfare in a democratic state. He noted that this transformation reflects the broader shift towards aligning police work with the principles of a welfare state. The seminar is being coordinated by Shri Rakesh Mani, with assistance from ASI Rajinder Singh, a faculty member at SKPA Udhampur. |
