Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 11: Natrang presented a new Hindi play ‘Chandi Ka Chamcha’ written by Habib Tanveer and directed by Neeraj Kant here today at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu under Natrang’s weekly theatre series ‘Sunday Theatre’.
The play opens at the crossroads of a busy market where a shopkeeper is upset with the dirt and filth thrown in front of her shop by the people of the locality and curses everyone while cleaning it. Everyone who comes there, right from the garbage collection vehicle to the garbage collector, do not clean the lane and pick the garbage. On top of it, a woman comes and throws her household garbage on the same heap where there is already a lot of garbage. Agitated over this, the shopkeeper woman starts ranting and abusing even more and narrates her plight to a boy named Tony who has recently returned from abroad. Tony narrates about how people living abroad take care of their sanitation and hygiene.
The shopkeeper tells the passing by women on the street whom she suspects of throwing garbage that someone throws garbage at her shop quite often. On this the woman gets angry at the shopkeeper. There is a fight between the two and the woman scolds the shopkeeper and leaves. Meanwhile, a friend of the shopkeeper visits her and is later joined by Tony. During their conversation someone from above drops garbage on them. The shopkeeper woman gets very angry and asks the person throwing garbage to come forward but no one comes.
Meanwhile, the shopkeeper’s friend in an intelligent manner calls out that someone has thrown down a silver spoon along with the garbage, the person to whom it belongs should come and take it. Attracted by the silver spoon in a dramatic turn the women surfaces and claims the silver spoon. This is how she gets exposed publicly. Then everyone asks her to collect garbage and makes a promise not to throw garbage in the future. While collecting garbage, the woman slips on banana peels thrown by herself and falls. On this everyone says, “As you sow, so shall you reap”.
The artists who performed in the play included ; Vrinda Gujral, Mehak Chib, Aadesh Dhar, Advik Sharma and Priyal Ashok Gupta. Lights were designed and operated by Neeraj Kant. Kushal Bhat scored the music of the play who also did presentations. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen..
