JAMMU, Aug 23: The IQAC and NSS Unit of Govt. College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, organized a series of events to celebrate the Maiden National Space Day on August 23, 2024, marking the one-year anniversary of ISRO's historic Chandrayaan-3 moon landing. The celebration was held under the patronage of the college's Principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol.
The event commenced with an inspiring address by Dr. Meeru Abrol, who emphasized the significance of National Space Day in honoring India's remarkable achievements in space exploration. She highlighted the country's progress and the societal benefits derived from space exploration, aligning her speech with this year's theme, "Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India's Space Saga." The theme captures India's extraordinary journey in space and its profound impact on society.
The program included a live streaming of the National Space Day event organized by ISRO at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Around 80 students, along with faculty members, participated in this historic moment, engaging with the celebration from the college premises. Prof. Nisha Bhagat, IQAC Coordinator, spoke on the occasion, highlighting India's significant milestones in space exploration, the societal benefits of these programs, and the numerous opportunities available for individuals to contribute to the nation's space endeavors.
The event concluded with a documentary screening on India's historic Chandrayaan Mission. The documentary offered students a glimpse into the wonders of the universe, celebrated the incredible achievements of astronauts and space scientists, and honored the unyielding human spirit that continues to push the boundaries of exploration.
This celebration not only marked a significant day in India's space history but also inspired students to appreciate and contribute to the country's ongoing space saga.
