Agencies NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh concluded his visit to the United States on August 25, 2024, with a significant stop at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, where he also engaged with the Indian community from the region. This marked the final day of his US tour. The National Civil Rights Museum, which chronicles the history of the civil rights movement in the United States from the 17th century to the present, is notably built around the site where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. The museum also features a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, recognizing his influence on the non-violent struggle for civil rights. During his interaction with members of the Indian diaspora from Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, and surrounding areas, Rajnath Singh praised their accomplishments and contributions to society, science, and the economy. He referred to the Indian community as a "living bridge" between India and the United States, highlighting their role in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering goodwill. Rajnath Singh also commended the efforts of the Indian community in establishing an exhibit of Mahatma Gandhi at the museum and in placing two honorary 'Gandhi Way' street signs near the National Civil Rights Museum on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary in 2019. Reflecting on the last event of his US visit, the Raksha Mantri emphasized India's remarkable growth over the past decade and expressed confidence in the country's promising future. |
