Gaurav calls on CS, discusses flour milling & land registration issues

JAMMU, Sept 7: Gaurav Gupta, former General Secretary of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu, today met with Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary of &K UUT, and submitted a memorandum of demands highlighting critical issues affecting the business community in the region. The memorandum focused on two major concerns: the struggling Flour Milling Industry and the prolonged non-functioning of the registration software for land transactions in J&K.
During the meeting, Gaurav Gupta expressed his appreciation for the Chief Secretary's leadership in driving the economic and infrastructural development of the UT. However, he stressed the urgency of addressing these pressing matters, which are negatively impacting local businesses and the public at large.
Gaurav Gupta highlighted the challenges faced by the Flour Milling Industry in J&K due to the withdrawal of toll tax exemptions and market fee waivers in neighboring states like Punjab. He mentioned that the notification issued by the Government of Punjab, exempting millers from the Market Fee (6% per quintal), has compounded the difficulties for our local industry. This disparity has allowed millers from these states to sell products like wheat flour (atta), suji, and maida at competitive prices.
He urged the Chief Secretary to take immediate steps to either offer similar relief to our local millers or negotiate a resolution with the neighboring states to level the playing field.
The second issue raised in the memorandum was the non-functioning registration software, which has been causing major disruptions in land transactions since January 2024. The software malfunction has affected over 1500 individuals in Jammu who have paid stamp duties but are unable to complete their transactions. Despite several representations to various authorities, no solution has been provided.
Gaurav Gupta requested immediate intervention to restore the system and ease the burden on the public and business community.
Gaurav Gupta expressed confidence that under the able leadership of Shri Atal Dulloo, these issues will be resolved promptly, bringing relief to the affected sectors and ensuring the continued progress of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing to the issues put forth by Gaurav Gupta and assured him of swift action. He assured that the administration would carefully review both matters and work towards implementing effective solutions to address the grievances of the business community and the general public in Jammu & Kashmir.
