Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 11: Health Centre Committee in collaboration with Department of Zoology conducted a two-day enlightening awareness lecture on "Nutrition & Health and Life-style related Non-communicable Diseases". It was successfully held on Sept 10 & 11 at Zoology Department. The event aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices in preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. The welcome address was delivered by Samiksha Narang, student of 5th sem. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Zenuka Gupta, Health Officer AYUSH. The event was attended by Principal, Dr. SP Saraswat, Zoology faculty members including the convener Dr Anupama Pandotra, Prof Smriti Aggarwal (HOD Department of Zoology), Prof Nargis Nelofar, Dr Shaista Ajaz, Prof Raheela Mushtaq, Prof Shakha Sharma, Dr RK Santhal and our dear students. On first day, the session covered significance of nutrition, balanced diet, proper hydration and physical activity in maintaining overall health. Dr Zenuka explained how modern dietary trends, including consumption of processed foods and high-sugar diets, contributes to rise of lifestyle-related diseases. Day 2 of the lecture series focused on lifestyle management and behavioral changes to prevent NCDs. Dr Zenuka emphasized the importance of stress management, regular exercise, and adequate sleep in maintaining long-term health. The session also addressed the harmful effects of alcohol consumption, drugs and sedentary habits, which have become major contributors to the global burden of NCDs.
