GDC Majalta hosts awareness program
9/11/2024 10:21:41 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 11: As per the directives of the District Administration, Government Degree College (G.D.C) Majalta organized a series of awareness activities on the 11th of September 2024, under the aegis of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. The event aimed at motivating and educating students and the local community about their electoral rights and the significance of active participation in the democratic process.
Dr. Shalini Sharma, Principal of the college, inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering, encouraging all stakeholders to be proactive in the upcoming elections. She emphasized the importance of voting with full zeal and enthusiasm, and urged everyone to exercise their right to vote wisely.
The program commenced with a captivating Nukkad Natak (street play) performed by students, which focused on encouraging the audience to take part in the electoral process and select the right candidates. The play conveyed the message that abstaining from voting only weakens democracy, while active participation empowers citizens to choose leaders who represent their values and needs.
This was followed by a symposium, where students from various classes delivered speeches and presentations. The participants highlighted the essence of Indian democracy, underscoring the rights and duties of citizens in building a strong and responsible nation. The speakers delved into topics such as the importance of voting, the power of individual votes, and the role of youth in shaping the future of the country.
Special guest, Block Development Officer Mansar Nidhi Karalia, graced the event and addressed the gathering. They spoke about the responsibilities of citizens at this crucial juncture, urging the audience to realize their duty in participating in the electoral process. Their speeches inspired the attendees to become more aware of their role in sustaining a vibrant and inclusive democracy.
The event was successfully organized by Prof. Kamal Jeet, in charge of the Electoral Literacy Club, and his dedicated team consisting of Prof. Naresh Kumar, Prof. Anuradha Chaudhary, and Prof. Dalip Kumar. Their collaborative efforts ensured that the program ran smoothly and left a lasting impact on the audience.
The program concluded with a pledge by the students and faculty to participate in the upcoming elections and encourage others to do the same, thereby contributing to a robust and participative electoral process.
The program was organised in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the College under the able guidance of Prof. Anuradha Chowdhary.
This awareness initiative was yet another step by G.D.C Majalta towards creating a well-informed, active, and responsible electorate, playing a pivotal role in strengthening the democratic fabric of the nation. Dr. Chander Mohan (HOD English) presented formal vote of thanks.
