IIM Jammu celebrates Hindi Pakhwada with Special Lecture by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Rawat

Jammu, Sept 24: As part of the ongoing Hindi Pakhwada 2024, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu organized a special online Hindi lecture today, delivered by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Rawat, Joint Director (Official Language) at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. This event marked a significant step towards promoting the usage and implementation of Hindi in technical and academic contexts.
Dr. Rajeev Kumar Rawat, Joint Director (Official Language), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and an eminent scholar, shared insights on the technical use, implementation, and promotion of the Hindi language, focusing on increasing its reach and utility in higher education institutions.
He emphasized the collective responsibility of promoting Hindi in these settings, providing a historical perspective on communication that traced the transition from traditional methods to modern technologies like computers, WhatsApp, emails, and AI. Despite advancements in communication devices, he noted a disconnect with our immediate neighbourhoods, underscoring the importance of interconnecting with one another.
He illustrated the necessity of integrating Hindi into educational and official frameworks, highlighting tools such as Bhashini, Anuvadini, and OCR2Edit for translation and communication. He advocated for Hindi as the Rajbhasha, asserting that while English may serve as an additional communication language, the essence of our languages must not be lost.
His insights provided valuable direction for enhancing the accessibility of academic and technical knowledge through Hindi, particularly in higher education institutions.
Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, expressed his commitment to promoting the Hindi language, emphasizing the importance of integrating it into the institute’s academic framework.
He reiterated IIM Jammu’s dedication to fostering the use of Hindi in technical and academic fields, in alignment with the Government of India’s Rajbhasha policy, and noted that the special lecture is a significant initiative towards advancing this mission.
Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, highlighted that using Hindi in technical and academic contexts will enhance its presence and accessibility, reaffirming IIM Jammu’s commitment to this effort.
Present at the occasion were Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics; Dr. Anuja Akhouri, Co-Chairperson, Hindi Rajbhasha Committee, IIM Jammu; Cmdr. Kesavan Baskkaran, Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu; along with faculty, officers, and staff who joined the online lecture.
The program began with a welcome speech by Shri Abhay Kumar Awasthi, Hindi Rajbhasha Officer, IIM Jammu, who highlighted the importance of this workshop in promoting Hindi and encouraging its extensive use within the institution.
This was followed by the introduction of the chief speaker by Shri Ashish Isher, with a vote of thanks presented by Mrs. Garima Kushwaha, Assistant Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu.
This workshop emerged as an important step toward the promotion of the Hindi language and culture, allowing participants to gain insights into the technical and administrative aspects of Hindi and pledge to enhance its usage in their respective fields. This online lecture is part of IIM Jammu’s ongoing efforts to promote the use of Hindi during the Hindi Pakhwada celebrations, reflecting its commitment to the nation’s linguistic diversity and cultural heritage.
